Services

At Cornerstone Kinesiology we specialize in Active Rehabilitation and Functional Capacity Evaluation. We take an exercise-based, functional movement approach to physical recovery. This approach helps individuals with injury, functional difficulties, or medical condition(s) reach their occupational and/or recreational goals in a safe and progressive manner. We use Functional Capacity Evaluation to develop a treatment program, to measure the physical abilities of a client before and after a rehabilitation program, to modify a rehabilitation treatment, to measure loss of ability, to evaluate whether an injured worker can work in a particular occupation, and to determine when he/she can return to work in any capacity.

ACTIVE REHABILITATION INITIAL ASSESSMENT

Our Kinesiologist will guide you through a medical screening, an intake of your work/recreational activity demands, a musculoskeletal screen, a body mobility/dexterity assessment and a function strength assessment. An individualized corrective exercise program is developed with consideration given to the testing results, the nature of the injury, and the individuals’ occupational and daily living requirements.

ACTIVE REHABILITATION TREATMENT

Rehabilitation Treatments actively address balance, posture, strength and endurance in the context of functional movement needs. Exercise sessions include education, active exercise, functional progression, symptom monitoring and incorporate techniques needed for reducing pain and restoring function.

Baseline FCE

The most common reasons for requesting a baseline FCE are when a job goal is unknown, and/or when the purpose is to establish disability. A baseline FCE can be used to: determine the client’s current physical abilities and physical limitations; establish if the client can return to work full-time or part-time in any capacity; and to determine if there is need for reasonable accommodation.  This type of FCE can be implemented over one or two days.

JOB-SPECIFIC FCE

This type of FCE is requested to assess the client’s physical abilities in comparison to the physical demands of a specific job or jobs. A Job-Specific FCE can be used to: determine if the client is able to return to his/her pre-injury job; determine what specific job functions they are capable of performing; establish if the client can return to work full-time or part-time work in any capacity; and to determine if there is need for reasonable accommodation. This FCE can be implemented over one or two days.

MEDICAL-LEGAL FCE

This type of FCE is requested to assess the client’s residual physical tolerances, loss of ability, and potential for rehabilitation in preparation for determining loss of earning capacity and future cost of care. This type of FCE can be implemented over any number of days.

CUSTOM FCE

This type of FCE is requested when specific referral questions cannot be answered within the constraints of a Baseline or Job-Specific FCE. This type of FCE can be implemented over any number of days.
